Asbestos Management
M&W Asbestos Services | 5
Asbestos remains the biggest single cause of work-related deaths in the UK from diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer, with around 5,000 premature deaths recorded each year.
Asbestos is commonly found in premises built before the year 2000, and is closely regulated by The Control Of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and The Health & Safety At Work Act 1974. Complying with the law can be demanding and stressful, but M&W’s experienced consultants can guide you each step of the way.
Depending on the risks involved, the Dutyholder (the owner or maintaining tenant of the property) can either arrange to remove the asbestos completely, or manage the materials within an Asbestos Management Plan as required by The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
The Asbestos Management Plan
The control regulations also impose an obligation for the Dutyholder to write and publish an Asbestos Management Plan. Don’t panic, we can help!
This should include:• The person responsible for managing the asbestos
• The asbestos register
• Plans for any asbestos removal or remediation
• Schedules for monitoring the condition of retained asbestos • Communicating and telling people about your decisions
The plan must say who is responsible for what. It can be written or held as a computer based record. Make it easy to read and easy to find when you, or anyone else, needs it. It must be easy to update.

M&W has helped many clients, large and small, develop and implement their asbestos management plans and control systems, thereby ensuring their compliance with the regulations.
